How to earn Dogecoin for free
You can earn Dogecoin for free, as long as "free" means "for your time" and you are happy with small amounts. DOGE is well suited to this because transfers are cheap and the community has been giving away tiny amounts since 2014, when tipping strangers a few DOGE was part of the culture.
Here are the ways that work, roughly from least to most effort.
1. Dogecoin faucets
A faucet gives you a small amount of DOGE every few minutes or hours in return for a captcha and some ad views. It is the classic way to get free Dogecoin. Amounts are small, and quality varies a lot. See Dogecoin faucets for how to pick one.
2. PTC ads that pay in DOGE
Paid to click sites pay you to open an advertiser's page for a few seconds. On SurfFlux, a Dogecoin earning site with PTC ads, rewards are in DOGE and go to your balance immediately after the final check.
3. Surf extensions
A browser extension opens advertiser pages in tabs while you work on something else. It earns slowly but needs little attention. The SurfFlux extension can run up to five tabs at once.
4. Games
Some sites pay DOGE for simple games. SurfFlux has DOGE Miner, a short arcade game where you hit green reward targets and avoid red decoys and black penalty ore until your lives run out. "Play to earn Dogecoin" games on phones are a different category: many pay in points, and a lot of them are heavy on ads.
5. Paid To Promote
If you have a blog, a forum profile or a community, you can earn DOGE for the visitors you send through a PTP link. Read Paid To Promote first, because the rules on traffic quality are strict.
What about free Dogecoin mining?
Dogecoin is mined with the Scrypt algorithm, mostly by dedicated hardware and usually alongside Litecoin. A phone or a browser tab cannot mine it in any meaningful amount. Apps and sites offering free Dogecoin mining are, in almost every case, ad-viewing apps with a hashrate counter for decoration, or worse, ones that ask you to pay for "upgrades". If a mining site asks for a deposit, walk away.
How much can you realistically earn?
Enough to experiment with, not enough to live on. Think of earning sites as a way to collect some DOGE to learn with, or to fund advertising for your own site, which you can do directly with a SurfFlux balance.
Where to keep it
Most earning sites pay into FaucetPay. Collect there, then move larger amounts to a wallet you control. Our FaucetPay guide explains how.
